Dr. John MacKay’s Institute of Extraction Technology

Understanding every stage of the extraction process from measuring the potency at each stage of sample preparation to solvent selection and post-processing handling from leading experts, is invaluable, possibly saving your extraction operation thousands of dollars a week.

Skills Training

The growing business of cannabis and cannabinoid extractions requires an understanding of both the practical and the technical sides of extraction. Having hands-on experience and a thorough understanding of the science behind the process is essential for anyone hoping to gain success.

Graduating from the Institue of Extraction Technology can prepare you to advance in your career and gain the extra knowledge needed to stay competitive and up-to-date in your field. Completion of this coursework demonstrates evidence of your specialized education achievement.

Our Training

The extraction market has changed in the last year while we were indoors. There are more extraction technologies available than there were in 2019. The processes involve more chemistry and physics. To provide a meaningful impact on your business in the shortest amount of time has resulted in three new courses on practical extraction.

To maximize your time, we have made some significant changes to the courses. The first is to limit the number of attendees at each session to 16. The second is the inclusion of more hands-on activities for extraction and analyses. The third is always tying these principles to have a return on investment in less than one week. Coming away with an understanding of the impact your extraction decisions have on your capital and operating costs is the goal. The measurable impact is the goal.

John MacKay, Ph.D.

John A. MacKay earned a B.A. in Chemistry from St. Lawrence University (SLU), and Ph.D. from the University of Vermont (UVM), in Inorganic Chemistry focused on the synthesis of cancer fighting compounds. After positions teaching at Davidson College, Lyndon State College and University of Vermont (UVM), John joined Waters Corporation in 1983 and retired in 2017. His career has included many roles in innovative product development. While recently he is widely recognized as scientific expert in sub and supercritical fluid for extraction and chromatography in the botanical space, he is bringing the synergy from what were seen as disparate technologies together to optimize workflow.
